Father’s Day

Here’s a poem that I found at this site

This is my parent's 40th Anniversary

Dad in his younger daysI lost my Dad just last year and this is very hard for me – losing one parent is hard enough but when you lose both just shy of a year its a total blow.  My mom was buried on my Dad’s birthday (June 20th) and this month is very hard, as Father’s Day is today and  tomorrow is or would have been my parents 52nd Wedding Anniversary!

What Makes a Dad

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle’s flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so,

He called it … Dad

Here’s another poem that I liked as well…he just wasn’t Dad, as a little he was my Daddy…

A little girl needs Daddy
For many, many things:
Like holding her high off the ground
Where the sunlight sings!
Like being the deep music
That tells her all is right
When she awakens frantic with
The terrors of the night.

Like being the great mountain
That rises in her heart
And shows her how she might get home
When all else falls apart.

Like giving her the love
That is her sea and air,
So diving deep or soaring high
She’ll always find him there.
