I got this email from our mailing list and it seem that there was a competition going on for the price of the ultimate award – The Pavarotti Award and title of CHOIR OF THE WORLD! This is another way to be proud of being a Filipino, we’ve slowly but surely growing into our own.  There were a lot of competition around the globe that was held in Wales.  Wales is known for their beautiful voices and choir, but Philippines took home the prize!  The University of Santo Tomas is some of my families alma mater…and am sure they’re totally proud of the fact that they took the ultimate prize – The Pavarotti Award.  Read the description below and click on the link to see the video and also all other winners of different categories.

PHILIPPINES WINS CHOIR OF THE WORLD!

The University of Santo Tomas Singers won this grand award held in WALES, July 6-11, 2010. What a competition! Several choir categories — such as mixed choir, men’s choir, women’s choir, etc. and winners were chosen for each category. BUT, aside from this, all the winners from each category now had to compete once again for the ULTIMATE PRIZE — The PAVAROTTI PRIZE — for The Choir of the World. AND, the UNIVERSITY OF SANTO TOMAS SINGERS WON! Watch the videos — their final performances and the announcement of the winners!

I have a sneaking suspicion…. Could it be that Filipinos carry some sort of genetic predisposition for musicality? Both my Sisters have amazing voices, and I had wanted to be a professional singer in a previous life. Most Filipinos I know can either sing or play an instrument well.

yes it is… most of my family loves to sing, and play an instrument! My Aunt Mary has had a band for years where they would tour all over and play to any kind events. It has spread as well to the next generation of this ever growing family of ours! We love to entertain and have a blast!! You're not wrong in your assessment! 🙂
