America’s Forgotten Children

I found this story from my Facebook from one of the many people who I follow and it was heart wrenching to see this and read that there are many children born out-of-wedlock from US Service men station here in this country.  Once the base was closed, they were left behind and forgotten! I can feel their pain growing up not knowing who they were. They were cast as half breeds and outcast and ridiculed.  I hope that you read this and help sign a petition to give these children the right to be an american citizens.  They have the right to be as they were fathered by US Service military while being stationed here in Philippines and or Japan.  Thanks Definitely Filipino for sharing this story and I hope that they will become US American citizens.  Click on the link and see the trailer…

Left By The Ship

AMERICA’S FORGOTTEN CHILDREN

a documentary by Emma Rossi-Landi and Alberto Vendemmiati. Produced by VisitorQ, Raicinema, ITVS international and YLE

Robert, Jr, Charlene and Margarita are Amerasian: the sons and daughters of Filipina sex workers and American servicemen stationed at the Subic Bay US Naval Base, once the largest outside mainland USA.
When the Base was closed 18 years ago, thousands of Amerasian children were left behind. Unlike Amerasian children from other countries, Filipino Amerasian were never recognized by the US government.
Now those children have grown up. Left by the Ship follows the lives of four Amerasian over the course of two years, as they struggle with discrimination, family problems and identity related issues, trying to overcome a past they are in no way responsible for.

I’ve made this but not as a soup and love it! You can vary your ingredients, be creative and make it your own! ENJOY.. Thanks again.. Philippines Foods & Recipes

Picadillo consists mainly of ground beef. Picadillo is mostly seen and served at countries like Cuba, Mexico, and other Latin American countries. Picadillo comes from the Spanish word, “picar” which means “to mince” or “to chop”.

Picadillo here in the Philippines (Filipino Picadillo) is made with beef and either potatoes or chayote (with other vegetables).

Picadillo Recipe Ingredients:

* 2 tablespoons oil
* 1 small onion, chopped
* 3/4 kg (1 1/2 lb) minced beef
* 1 1/2 liters ( 6 cups) beef stock or water
* 1 medium potato, peeled and diced
* 1 small carrot, peeled and diced
* 50 g (1 cup) spinach leaves (optional)
* 2 tablespoons patis (fish sauce)
* Salt and pepper to taste

Picadillo Recipe Cooking Procedure:

1). Heat oil in a casserole or large saucepan and saute onion until transparent, 1 to 2 minutes.

2). Add garlic and saute until fragrant.

3). Stir in minced beef and cook until brown.

4). Pour in beef stock or water and bring to the boil then simmer over medium heat.

5). Add diced potatoes and carrots and simmer until potatoes and carrots are tender, about 10 minutes.

6). Stir in spinach leaves if desired and heat through.

Season it with patis, salt and pepper. Enjoy.
